Dr. Scott Mann

Dr. Scott Mann brings a lifelong passion for vision care and community service to his work at Invision. After earning his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), he built a career defined by clinical excellence with a commitment to advancing the profession.

Scott’s journey into optometry began with a personal experience: receiving contact lenses as a teenager impacted his ability to play sports—an impact that sparked his interest in eye care. A collegiate basketball player and sports enthusiast, Dr. Mann later served as team eye doctor for Radford University athletics for over a decade. He also provided care to the Salem Red Sox alongside Invision’s Dr. Jon Gudeman.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Mann is an educator and advocate. He has delivered guest lectures at Radford University and Roanoke College on sports-related eye injuries and ocular emergencies, training both athletic trainers and nurse practitioner students. A past president of the Southwest Virginia Optometric Society, he is also a proud member of the Virginia Academy of Optometry.

Nationally, Dr. Mann has represented optometrists as a federal legislative Key Person in Washington, D.C. through the American Optometric Association. He currently serves as President of the Virginia Optometric Association and is a dedicated member of its Board of Trustees.

Dr. Mann and his wife, Dr. Becky Mann, share a deep commitment to service, faith, and family. Together, they have raised three sons and have led multiple medical mission trips to Colombia and Nicaragua, combining their professional skills with their passion for giving back.

Dr. Jon Gudeman

Optometrists, optometrist

Originally from Illinois and Western New York, Dr. Jon Gudeman is no stranger to snowy winters—which made relocating to the Roanoke Valley after earning his Doctor of Optometry from The Ohio State University in 1996 an easy decision. Since then, he’s become a valued part of the community and a trusted name in eye care.

Dr. Gudeman has served as one of the team eye doctors for the Salem Red Sox and regularly shares his expertise through guest lectures at Roanoke College on sports-related eye injuries. He is a past president of the Southwest Virginia Optometric Society, an active member of both the Virginia and American Optometric Associations, and is deeply committed to advancing the profession.

His clinical interests include ocular disease management, pediatric vision, and specialty contact lens fitting—particularly challenging cases, which he finds especially rewarding.

Outside the office, Dr. Gudeman has participated in numerous global mission trips, providing essential vision care in underserved areas of Sudan, Congo, the Philippines, India, Kashmir, and Yemen. These experiences continue to inspire his dedication to compassionate, accessible eye care for all.

And if you’re a football fan, you might find some common ground—Dr. Gudeman is a loyal Chicago Bears fan (yes, even in the tough seasons!).

 Dr. Tim Poling

Dr. Tim Poling brings a rare blend of deep research expertise and heartfelt patient care to the Invision team. With a career that has taken him around the world and a passion for optometry that runs deep, Dr. Poling stands out as one of the most uniquely qualified doctors in our practice.

Originally from Ohio, Dr. Poling earned his Doctorate of Optometry from The Ohio State University, followed by a residency in contact lenses at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. His early career took him to Jacksonville, Florida, where he spent two decades with Johnson & Johnson’s Acuvue division conducting clinical research. His work led him to collaborate with practices and researchers across the globe — including more than 35 visits to London alone — testing and advancing the contact lens technologies of tomorrow.

Invision’s partnership with Dr. Poling began serendipitously when he relocated to Roanoke, Virginia, for a new research opportunity. We met him and he quickly became part of the Invision family. Today, Dr. Poling maintains a regular presence at Invision’s Christiansburg location, where he’s developed a loyal patient following, and he continues to help out at our Salem office as well. His dual role as a clinician and researcher allows him to bring cutting-edge knowledge directly into the exam room — finding innovative, personalized solutions for patients that other providers might miss.

At home, he cherishes time with his wife and three children and enjoys life on the family farm — a peaceful contrast to his high-tech research world.
